History

Nautisches Buero Bremen (NBB) was founded 1986 by Capt. John P. Marcus as a small business enterprise. Ten years later the company had occupied a niche in the shipping industry as nautical experts for ship manoeuvring and testing. In 2001 ten European shipyards entrusted NBB captains and engineers commanding their new built vessels during tests and trials. Three sea trials teams act simultaneously conducting 30-50 trials on all kind of surface ships per year. The entire organisation and executing of sea trials is often put into our hands.

Motion sensors and own computer programs are used recording and evaluating contract speed and manoeuvring performance; compass adjustment is carried out simultaneously. Close partners carry out machinery measurements and all trials documentation is furnished by NBB on behalf of the customer.
Training programs and simulation lessons for the commands as well as integrated logistical support for the vessels round up this segment for the special ships and yachting industry.

The electronic department of NBB develops and fabricates measurement and communication equipment and e-learning tools.

Knowledge and experience for nautical and technical surveys was gained assisting a senior marine surveyor company for half a decade before being appointed as sworn marine surveyor by the Chamber of Commerce of Bremen in 1996. Various participants, underwriters, lawyers, investigation boards and courts used the expert evidence of NBB in a great number of court and arbitration cases.

Experience from world-wide trading and hundreds of sea trials combined with continuing education and training NBB became expert for nautical related consultancy tasks like port planning, traffic management or fleet operational procedures. Regional, national and international harbour planning projects were supported by investigation, design, planning, computing and evaluation.

In 2022 Capt. John P. Marcus passed the ownership to former river pilot Capt. Roland Wegner.
